Seven kilometers of paved road wind through shady hammocks, along grassy marshes while the coast associated with Upper Myakka Lake. The North Drive usually has less traffic compared to the principal Drive. Bicycles are permitted on backcountry dirt roadways north of State path 72 as well as on the Myakka Island Trail into the Carlton Reserve. Some roadways are hardpacked and grassed-over; other people can be sandy, dirty or dug up by feral pigs. Roadways in many cases are inundated during the summer.
